European datacenters currently consume 56tWh of Electricity. By 2020 this is forecast to be doubled. The recently launched EU Code of Conduct for datacenters provides recommendations which target a reduction in energy consumption of data centres of up to 20%. The key goal of the code of Conduct is to inform and stimulate datacenter operators to reduce energy consumption in a cost-effective manner. This is achieved through a series of best practice recommendations which focus on IT architecture, infrastructure and software.
